Embroidery hoop sizes chart
Every common machine embroidery hoop in inches and millimetres, what fits in it, and which machines can stitch it.
The hoop size that matters is the stitch area: 4 × 4 in = 100 × 100 mm, 5 × 7 in = 130 × 180 mm, 6 × 10 in = 160 × 260 mm. A machine can never stitch more than its own maximum field, whatever hoop you attach.

Hoop size questions
What are the standard embroidery hoop sizes?
For home machines the common sizes are 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm), 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) and 6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm), with 8 × 8, 8 × 12 and 9.5 × 14 in on larger machines.
Is the hoop size the same as the design size?
Use the stitch area, not the outside of the hoop. A "5 × 7" hoop lets the machine stitch a design up to about 130 × 180 mm.
Can I use a bigger hoop on my machine?
Only hoops made for your machine attach properly, and no hoop lets the machine stitch beyond its maximum field.
Which hoop size should I get?
Pick the size that holds the biggest design you plan to stitch in one go. 5 × 7 in covers most shirts, bags and towels; 4 × 4 in is fine for names and patches.
