Brother SE625: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: SE-625, SE 625

A 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) sewing and embroidery combo with a 3.7 in color touchscreen, 80 built-in designs and 103 stitches. It reads PES, PHC and DST from a USB flash drive. Brother lists it as discontinued, so new stock is limited.

The Brother SE625 is a discontinued sewing and embroidery machine with a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 80 built-in designs and 9 lettering fonts.

SE625 hoop size and embroidery area

The SE625 can stitch a design up to 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) in one hooping, which is the 4 × 4 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 4" × 4" hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)).

Optional from Brother: Large frame (about 4" × 6.7", two attach positions; each design still 4" × 4") (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small frame (about 1" × 2.5") (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)).

What file format does the SE625 use?

The SE625 reads .PES, .PHC and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Good to know: Brother's US page flags the SE625 as discontinued. It shares one operation manual (product code 888-M20) with the SE630. The manual says the embroidery area is 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm). It lists an optional large frame (4 × 6.7 in, 100 × 170 mm, SA434) that lets you place several designs without re-hooping, and an optional small frame (1 × 2-1/2 in, 20 × 60 mm, SA431) for lettering. Each design still has to fit within 4 × 4 in, so the field stays 100 × 100 mm. Brother's font chart for this machine family shows nine fonts, three of them Japanese-character fonts. Brother US does not publish an embroidery speed or weight for this model. The Brother page lists the screen as 3.2 × 1.8 in (width × height), about 3.7 in on the diagonal.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Brother SE625 hoop size, and can I get a bigger hoop?

The SE625 comes with one 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) hoop, and a single design can be no bigger than that. Brother's manual lists an optional large frame (about 4 × 6.7 in) for placing several designs without re-hooping, plus a small frame (1 × 2-1/2 in) for lettering.

What file formats does the Brother SE625 use?

Brother's manual says it reads PES, PHC and DST files. Copy them to a USB flash drive and plug it into the USB port on the machine; a USB stick is not included.

Can the Brother SE625 embroider hats?

Brother does not list a cap frame for the SE625, and the included hoop is for flat fabric. Some third-party sellers advertise 4 × 4 in cap frames for it, but we have not verified them.

What is the difference between the Brother SE625 and SE630?

Brother lists both as 4 × 4 in combos with 80 built-in designs and 103 stitches, and they share one manual. The SE625 comes with a CD of 200 extra designs, while the SE630 lists 400 downloadable designs instead.

Is the Brother SE625 still sold new?

Brother's US page marks the SE625 as discontinued and out of stock. If you want one, look for refurbished or leftover units and check the return policy.
