Singer SE300: hoop size, file formats and specs
Also written: SE-300, SE 300, Legacy SE300, Singer Legacy SE300, Singer SE300 Legacy
Singer's Legacy SE300 is a sewing and embroidery combo with a 10¼ × 6 in (260 × 150 mm) hoop, 250 sewing stitches and a touchscreen. It reads XXX and DST files by USB only. Singer lists it as sold out with no restock date, so new stock is hard to find.
The Singer SE300 is a discontinued sewing and embroidery machine with a 10 × 5.9 in (260 × 150 mm) embroidery field. It reads .XXX, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 69 built-in designs and 6 lettering fonts.
SE300 hoop size and embroidery area
The SE300 can stitch a design up to 10 × 5.9 in (260 × 150 mm) in one hooping, which is the 5.5 × 8 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: 10¼" × 6" hoop (large) (10 × 5.9 in (260 × 150 mm)), 4" × 4" hoop (small) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)).
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the SE300 use?
The SE300 reads .XXX and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the SE300 is for
Suits a sewer who wants one machine for everyday sewing and mid-size embroidery such as monograms, pocket designs and borders, and who can find one used or as leftover dealer stock. Skip it if you need Wi-Fi, PES files without converting, finished hats or designs larger than 10¼ × 6 in.
Strengths
- A large 10¼ × 6 in (260 × 150 mm) hoop and a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) hoop both come in the box
- Sews and embroiders: 250 built-in sewing stitches, a quilting bar and a drop feed lever
- 200 embroidery designs come with it: 69 stored in the machine and the rest on the included USB stick
- Reads .xxx and .dst files from a USB stick, and Singer's included software prepares designs on a Windows PC
- Automatic needle threader, built-in thread cutter and a touch panel for stitch and design selection
Limits
- No Wi-Fi and no companion app: designs reach the machine only on a USB stick
- Reads only .xxx and .dst files, so PES, JEF and other common formats need converting first
- Lettering is 2 font styles in 3 sizes each, which Singer counts as 6 options
- Singer's page and a major dealer both showed it as sold out on the check date, with no restock date
- Singer lists no cap frame, so it is not set up for finished hats
Good to know: Singer's manual (shared with the SE340) says the two hoops in the box are 260 × 150 mm and 100 × 100 mm. Those set the hoop and field sizes here, and Singer names no larger or optional hoop. A manual screenshot shows a 180 × 130 hoop label, but it is an illustration, not a listed accessory. Singer's page says 200 designs and 6 lettering options. The manual says 69 designs plus the fonts are stored in the machine, the rest are on the USB stick, and lettering is 2 styles in 3 sizes. The 69 stored designs are what the built-in count shows. Singer's own page gives only an 800 stitches per minute sewing speed; the 700 embroidery speed comes from a dealer's copy of Singer's feature list. Singer gives the weight as 20.5 with no units, so the manual's 8.4 kg (18.5 lb) for the machine is used. The embroidery unit adds 3.2 kg (about 7 lb). Screen size and color are not published. Singer does not use the word discontinued. Its page shows the machine out of stock with back-orders on a date to be set, so the status is based on that. Singer's SE9180 is sold alongside it, but no source says either replaced the other. Singer's design software for it is listed as Windows only.
