Brother PR1055X: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: Entrepreneur Pro X PR1055X, Brother Entrepreneur Pro X PR1055X, PR-1055X, PR 1055X

Discontinued 10-needle machine with an 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field, a 10.1 in color touch screen, wireless LAN and up to 1,000 stitches per minute. Cap frames are optional. Brother US marks it discontinued and now lists the PR1060W as its 10-needle model.

The Brother PR1055X is a discontinued 10-needle embroidery machine with a 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST, .PEN files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi or Memory card, and has 1184 built-in designs.

PR1055X hoop size and embroidery area

The PR1055X can stitch a design up to 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 12 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

Cap frame: Cap frame and driver set (PRCF3) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Flat brim cap frame and driver set (PRCF5) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Wide cap frame and driver set (PRPCF1) (14 × 2.4 in (360 × 60 mm)), sold separately.

What file format does the PR1055X use?

The PR1055X reads .PES, .PHC, .DST and .PEN files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi or Memory card, and the Artspira app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PR1055X is for

A shop or serious hobbyist who wants ten colors loaded at once and a long 8 × 14 in field for hats, jackets and borders. Check dealer stock and warranty terms first, because Brother US lists it as discontinued.

Strengths

  • 10 needles hold ten thread colors at once, so large multi-color designs need fewer thread changes
  • 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field, with 8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in hoops in the box
  • Wireless LAN, the Artspira and My Stitch Monitor apps, and PE-DESIGN 11 (sold separately) to link up to 10 machines
  • Official cap frames, including a wide 360 × 60 mm (14 × 2.4 in) frame for stitching across more of a cap
  • Up to 1,000 stitches per minute and 1,184 built-in designs

Limits

  • Brother US lists it as discontinued
  • No cap frame in the box; the cap frames are separate purchases
  • Heavy at about 94 lb (43 kg)
  • Priced far above single-needle home machines

Good to know: Brother US and Brother Canada both mark the PR1055X discontinued. Brother US lists the PR1060W (10 needles, the same 8 × 14 in field) as new, but Brother's pages do not say it replaces the PR1055X, so replacedBy is left empty. Brother US still shows a list price on the PR1055X page, while dealers show call-for-price or limited stock, so no reliable current price range is given. Brother US lists 37 built-in alphabet fonts in its spec table and 40 size-adjustable lettering fonts plus 14 monogram styles in its text, so the font count is left null. Brother US gives hoop sizes in inches only; the mm sizes follow Brother's metric sizes (360 × 200 mm area on the PR1055X, 130 × 60 mm cap frames, 360 × 60 mm wide cap frame). Brother's FAQ lists .pes, .phc and .dst, and its general page also lists .pen designs from iBroidery.com. Brother also sells a 360 × 360 mm jumbo frame that stitches half a design, then rotates; the one-hooping field stays 360 × 200 mm. Brother Canada's text says 14 × 8.5 in, but Brother US and Brother's accessory guide say 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm).

Frequently asked questions

What is the embroidery area of the Brother PR1055X?

8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm). Brother puts four hoops in the box (8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in), and the machine detects the hoop size on its own.

Does the Brother PR1055X come with a cap frame?

No. Cap frames are optional: the PRCF3 and PRCF5 sets stitch a 130 × 60 mm (5 × 2.4 in) area, and the PRPCF1 wide frame stitches 360 × 60 mm (14 × 2.4 in).

Is the Brother PR1055X discontinued?

Yes. Brother US and Brother Canada both mark it discontinued. Brother US now lists the PR1060W as a 10-needle model with the same 8 × 14 in field.

What file formats does the Brother PR1055X read?

Brother lists .pes, .phc and .dst, plus .pen designs from iBroidery.com. DST files carry no thread colors, so the machine assigns its own color order.

Does the Brother PR1055X have Wi-Fi?

Yes. It has wireless LAN, works with the Artspira and My Stitch Monitor apps, and can link up to 10 machines with PE-DESIGN 11 software, which is sold separately.
