Brother PR1060W: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: Entrepreneur Pro W PR1060W, Brother Entrepreneur Pro W PR1060W, PR-1060W, PR 1060W

Ten-needle machine with an 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field, a 10.1 in color touch screen, a built-in camera view, wireless LAN and up to 1,000 stitches per minute. Four hoops come in the box; cap frames are extra. It costs about double Brother's six-needle PR680W and weighs about 92 lb.

The Brother PR1060W is a 10-needle embroidery machine with a 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and has 1280 built-in designs and 50 lettering fonts.

PR1060W hoop size and embroidery area

The PR1060W can stitch a design up to 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 8 × 14 in hoop (extra large) (14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm)), 5 × 7 in hoop (large) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), 4 × 4 in hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), 1.5 × 2 in hoop (small) (2.4 × 1.6 in (60 × 40 mm)).

Optional from Brother: Hoopnetic magnetic sash frame (PRMS360) (14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm)), Versatile magnetic frame L (about 7 × 5 in) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), Versatile magnetic frame M (4 × 4 in) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)).

Cap frame: Flat brim cap frame and driver set (PRCF5) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately.

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, full front, pocket, sleeve, cap front, cap side and back, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the PR1060W use?

The PR1060W reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and the Artspira app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PR1060W is for

A small shop or serious hobbyist ready for production who wants ten colors loaded at once and a long 8 × 14 in field for jacket backs, home decor and hats. Skip it if a single-needle machine covers your projects, or if you lack the space and budget for a 92 lb machine.

Strengths

  • 10 needles hold ten thread colors at once, so large multi-color designs need fewer thread changes
  • 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field, with 8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in hoops and a tubular frame table in the box
  • Up to 1,000 stitches per minute, reached in about seven seconds according to Brother
  • Built-in camera feature shows a live view of the needle and a preview of the design on your fabric, and Matrix Copy repeats a design for several patches in one hooping
  • Wireless LAN, the Artspira and My Stitch Monitor apps, 1,280 built-in designs, 50 lettering fonts and one 3D puff font

Limits

  • Costs about double Brother's six-needle PR680W at dealers, and far more than any single-needle home machine
  • No cap frame in the box; Brother lists cap frame capability, but the frames are separate purchases
  • Heavy at about 92 lb (42 kg)

Good to know: Brother US lists the PR1060W as new, and its product data gives an August 2025 launch date, which is where releaseYear comes from. Brother US and Brother Canada give the maximum embroidery area only as 14 × 8 in. The 360 × 200 mm field (width × height) comes from Brother's operation manual, which covers the PR1060W and the PR1055X together, and Brother Australia's PR1060W page gives the same figure. The manual gives the four included hoops as 360 × 200, 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm. The manual also lists an optional 360 × 360 mm jumbo frame for designs split into two halves, which is not counted as the field. Brother's pages do not say the PR1060W replaces the PR1055X, which Brother US marks discontinued, so replaces is left empty. Brother US lists cap frame capability as Yes without naming a frame, but its PR1060W page recommends the PRCF5 flat brim cap frame set and the PRCFH5 frame, the PR1060W addendum recommends a flat brim cap frame for caps, and the manual gives that frame as 130 × 60 mm (5 × 2.4 in); Brother US's own PRCF5 page still names only older models. The manual's cap frame list is shared with the PR1055X and Brother's PR1060W pages name only the PRCF5, so other cap frames are not listed. Brother's other optional frames for this machine include two versatile magnetic frames (100 × 100 and 180 × 130 mm, from the PR1060W addendum) and the Hoopnetic magnetic sash frame. The tubular frame table is in the box; the wide table is sold separately. Brother US lists 1,280 built-in designs in its spec table and 'over 1,200' in its text, plus 50 alphabet fonts and one 3D puff font. The manual lists .pes, .phc, .phx and .dst, and Brother's FAQ for the machine lists .pes, .phc and .dst. Brother's general help page also mentions .pen designs from iBroidery, but it covers many models and the PR1060W manual does not list .pen, so it is left out. Brother lists USB and wireless LAN. The machine has no built-in memory-card slot; the manual says SD and other cards work through a USB card reader plugged into the USB port. The manual gives a top speed of 1,000 stitches per minute and says some frames limit it to 600. Brother US shows no price because the machine is sold through dealers; the range comes from several US dealer listings, and one dealer lists it for in-store purchase only. Weight is Brother's 92.15 lb unit weight (the manual says 41.8 kg, 92 lb).

Frequently asked questions

What is the embroidery area of the Brother PR1060W?

8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm). Brother puts four hoops in the box (8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in), and the machine detects which hoop is attached.

Can the Brother PR1060W embroider hats?

Yes, with an optional cap frame. Brother lists cap frame capability, but no cap frame is in the box. Its PR1060W page recommends the PRCF5 flat brim cap frame set, which stitches a 130 × 60 mm (5 × 2.4 in) area.

What file formats does the Brother PR1060W read?

Brother's operation manual lists .pes, .phc, .phx and .dst; .phx is the format the machine uses when you save a design on it. DST files carry no thread colors, so the machine assigns its own color order.

Brother PR1060W or PR1055X: what is the difference?

Both have 10 needles, an 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field, a 10.1 in screen and up to 1,000 stitches per minute. Brother lists 1,280 built-in designs and 50 fonts on the PR1060W against 1,184 designs and 37 fonts on the PR1055X. Brother US marks the PR1055X discontinued and the PR1060W new.

Brother PR1060W or PR680W: which is bigger?

The PR1060W has 10 needles and an 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field. The PR680W has 6 needles and an 8 × 12 in (300 × 200 mm) field. Both stitch up to 1,000 stitches per minute and have a 10.1 in screen and wireless LAN.
