Janome Memory Craft 350E: hoop size, file formats and specs

Janome's older embroidery-only machine: a 5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm) field, two hoops in the box, 100 built-in designs and 3 monogram fonts, at up to 650 stitches per minute. It reads JEF files by USB or ATA card. It is no longer sold new.
The Janome Memory Craft 350E is a discontinued embroidery-only machine with a 8 × 5.5 in (200 × 140 mm) embroidery field. It reads .JEF files and gets designs by USB stick or Memory card, and has 100 built-in designs and 3 lettering fonts.
Memory Craft 350E hoop size and embroidery area
The Memory Craft 350E can stitch a design up to 8 × 5.5 in (200 × 140 mm) in one hooping, which is the 5.5 × 8 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: Hoop B (large) (8 × 5.5 in (200 × 140 mm)), Hoop A (standard) (5 × 4.3 in (126 × 110 mm)).
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the Memory Craft 350E use?
The Memory Craft 350E reads .JEF files. You load designs by USB stick or Memory card. Designs in other formats (for example .EXP or .PES) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the Memory Craft 350E is for
Fits someone shopping used for a medium-size Janome embroidery-only machine for home décor, garments and monograms, who wants USB transfer. Skip it if you want a large field, or a machine that also sews.
Strengths
- 5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm) field, about 2.8 times the area of a 4 × 4 in field
- Two hoops come with it: Hoop B at 5.5 × 7.9 in and Hoop A at 5 × 4.3 in (126 × 110 mm)
- USB port for loading designs, plus an ATA PC card slot
- 100 built-in designs and 2 and 3 letter monogramming
- Automatic thread cutter and built-in needle threader
Limits
- Only 3 built-in monogram fonts
- Janome's spec page lists only the JEF format
- Embroidery only: it cannot sew, and it is a single-needle machine, so each color change needs a stop and a re-thread
- No longer sold new by Janome, and the standard hoops are the only ones in the box
Good to know: Janome names Hoop A as 125 × 110 mm in its accessory listing; the instruction book and dealers use 126 × 110 mm, which is used here. A hat hoop sold for the 350E is a flat insert, not a cap frame. Janome does not list the screen size or say which model replaced it, and new units are no longer priced by dealers.
