Totals across all colours. Split by colour for large runs.

Top thread ≈ stitches ÷ 1,000 × 5–6 m, and bobbin thread ≈ 40–60% of that. Multiply by the number of pieces for an order.

Frequently asked questions

How much thread does 1,000 stitches use?

Roughly 5–6 metres of top thread per 1,000 stitches, depending on stitch length and type. The bobbin uses about 40–60% as much.

How many designs can I stitch from one spool?

Divide the spool length by the top thread one design needs. Remember a multicolour design draws from several spools, so plan per colour for big runs.

Why does the bobbin use less thread?

In balanced machine embroidery the top thread is pulled slightly to the back, and the bobbin thread stays in the middle of the underside, so it travels less distance per stitch.
