Pfaff's sewing and embroidery combo with a 14.2 × 13.8 in (360 × 350 mm) embroidery field, 480 stitches, 270 built-in designs and a 5.7 in touch screen. Three hoops come in the box, the largest 360 × 200 mm. It has no Wi-Fi, only 3 embroidery fonts and no listed cap frame.

The Pfaff creative 4.5 is a sewing and embroidery machine with a 14 × 13.8 in (360 × 350 mm) embroidery field. It reads .VP3 files and gets designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer, and has 270 built-in designs and 3 lettering fonts.

The creative 4.5 can stitch a design up to 14 × 13.8 in (360 × 350 mm) in one hooping, which is the 9.5 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

What file format does the creative 4.5 use?

The creative 4.5 reads .VP3 files. You load designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the creative 4.5 is for

A fit for sewers who want large embroidery and a roomy machine with Pfaff's IDT even-feed system in one body, and who are happy to buy from Pfaff's store or a Pfaff dealer. Skip it if you want Wi-Fi, a cap frame or a lower price.

Strengths

  • Embroidery field up to 14.2 × 13.8 in (360 × 350 mm) on Pfaff's spec page, which is large for a home machine
  • Three hoops come in the box: 120 × 120 mm, 240 × 150 mm and 360 × 200 mm
  • 270 built-in embroidery designs, including quilting designs, and 480 stitches with 9 mm decorative stitches and Maxi stitches up to 48 mm wide
  • Pfaff's original IDT system feeds fabric from the top and bottom, with 9.8 in (250 mm) of sewing space and a 5.7 in color touch screen
  • Precise Positioning helps line up several hoopings for designs larger than the field

Limits

  • The largest hoop in the box covers 360 × 200 mm, and Pfaff's page does not name the hoop for the full 360 × 350 mm area
  • Only 3 built-in embroidery fonts, against 270 built-in designs
  • No Wi-Fi: Pfaff's spec data shows mySewnet Wi-Fi as "No", and designs move by USB embroidery stick or USB cord
  • Single needle, so you change the thread by hand for each color, and Pfaff lists no cap frame for it
  • Pfaff's own page does not publish an embroidery speed or the list of file formats it reads

Good to know: Specs come from Pfaff's own store page, which writes the maximum embroidery area both as 350 × 360 mm and as 360 × 350 mm; this guide uses 360 × 350 mm (width × height), the way Pfaff writes its hoops. The page says the area comes "with one of the largest turnable hoops" but does not name the hoop. The hoop covering 360 × 350 mm in Pfaff's range is the Grand Dream hoop, and the page for it does not list the creative 4.5, so it is not shown in the hoop list here. Check with a Pfaff dealer before you plan around the full area. Pfaff lists the 360 × 200 mm Deluxe hoop for the 4.5 "with large embroidery unit", and lists the Quilters and Grand Endless hoops for it when sold with the large or small embroidery unit. The 1,050 stitches per minute on Pfaff's page is the sewing speed, so embroidery speed is left blank. Pfaff's page does not list file formats. VP3 is Pfaff's own format; the owner's manual should list others, so check it before you buy designs in another format. Pfaff lists no cap hoop for this machine. Pfaff's own store lists it as available, but it is not on Pfaff's page of featured current machines and a Pfaff dealer we checked did not list it, so ask a dealer about stock. No Pfaff page we found says it replaces or is replaced by another model.
