Brother's current embroidery-only Stellaire2 model: 9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) field, 889 built-in designs (101 Disney/Pixar), 26 fonts, a 10.1 in touchscreen and up to 1,050 stitches per minute. Reads PES, PHC, PHX, DST and PEN, with wifi. It does not sew.

The Brother Stellaire XE2 is a embroidery-only machine with a 9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX, .DST, .PEN files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and has 889 built-in designs and 26 lettering fonts.

XE2 hoop size and embroidery area

The XE2 can stitch a design up to 9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) in one hooping, which is the 9.5 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 9.5" × 14" hoop (super large) (9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm)), 5" × 7" hoop (large) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)).

What file format does the XE2 use?

The XE2 reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX, .DST and .PEN files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and the Artspira app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the XE2 is for

A fit for serious hobbyists and home businesses that want a very large single-needle field and wifi. Skip it if you want to sew on the same machine (Brother's XJ2 does both) or need a multi-needle machine for production.

Strengths

  • 9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) field, with 9.5 × 14 in and 5 × 7 in hoops in the box
  • Embroiders at up to 1,050 stitches per minute
  • 10.1 in color touchscreen with a realistic preview
  • 889 built-in designs (788 plus 101 Disney/Pixar) and 26 fonts
  • Wifi transfer and the Artspira app, and it reads five file types

Limits

  • Embroidery only: it does not sew
  • Priced far above Brother's smaller-field home machines
  • Single needle, so you change thread color by hand
  • Needs about 36 × 21 in (916 × 524 mm) of table space with the embroidery unit attached

Good to know: Brother's manual lists the maximum embroidering area as 360 (H) × 240 (W) mm. Stellaire2 is the second generation of Brother's Stellaire line; the first-generation XE1 (launched 2019) is still on Brother's US site, but the Stellaire page now shows only the XE2 and XJ2. Brother sells the XE2 through authorized dealers, and its US page shows Locate a Dealer instead of a price. Brother's 5 × 7 in magnetic frame (SAMF180) lists the XE2 as compatible, and its Stellaire2 brochure shows a 7 × 12 in magnetic sash frame (SAMF300) as an accessory; the stitchable area of those frames is not published, so they are not listed above. The manual gives about 33.1 lb (15 kg) for the machine alone, and the US page gives 33.7 lb.

What hoops come with the Brother Stellaire XE2?

Two hoops come in the box: a 9.5 × 14 in hoop (240 × 360 mm) and a 5 × 7 in hoop (130 × 180 mm), each with a decal set for the My Design Snap camera feature. Other hoops and magnetic frames are sold separately.
