Brother PE700II: hoop size, file formats and specs
Also written: PE-700II, PE 700II, PE700 II, PE-700 II
Older embroidery-only machine with a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) field, 136 built-in designs and up to 650 stitches per minute. It reads .pes and .dst files over a USB cable from a computer and has a card slot. Brother US lists it as discontinued.
The Brother PE700II is a discontinued embroidery-only machine with a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .DST files and gets designs by USB cable to a computer or Memory card, and has 136 built-in designs and 6 lettering fonts.
PE700II hoop size and embroidery area
The PE700II can stitch a design up to 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) in one hooping, which is the 5 × 7 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: 5" × 7" hoop (large) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)).
Optional from Brother: Multi-position hoop (12" × 5" frame, stitches 5" × 7" per position) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)), 4" × 4" hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small frame (about 1" × 2.5") (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)).
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the PE700II use?
The PE700II reads .PES and .DST files. You load designs by USB cable to a computer or Memory card. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PE700II is for
A fit for someone buying used who wants a 5 × 7 in field and has a Windows computer to send designs from. Skip it if you want a color screen, wireless transfer or a USB port for flash drives.
Strengths
- 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) field, with the matching 5 × 7 in hoop in the box
- Up to 650 stitches per minute, with a slower 350 setting you can choose
- 136 built-in designs, 10 frame shapes with 12 stitch types, and 6 lettering fonts
- Embroidery card slot for Brother cards sold separately, plus memory for up to 12 saved patterns
- Automatic thread cutting after a design and a quick-set bobbin
Limits
- Designs come in over a USB cable from a computer; Brother's manual describes no USB flash drive port
- Brother's manual lists only older Windows versions for the cable link (Me, 2000 and XP, plus 98SE with a driver)
- Reads only .pes and .dst files, not .phc, and .dst files appear in the pattern list by file name rather than as a picture
- Brother US lists it as discontinued and names no successor
Good to know: Brother lists the PE700II and the older PE700 on separate US pages, so they are treated as two machines here. Brother's PE700II page gives only the 5 × 7 in area, 136 designs and computer connection. Hoops, speed, fonts and the card slot come from Brother's operation manual, which Brother's support page lists for the PE-700II and PE-750D (the manual itself names no model). File types come from Brother's USB manual, which names the PE-700II and PE-750D. The operation manual lists an optional 12 × 5 in multi-position frame (part SA445) and gives its area as 30 cm tall × 13 cm wide for combined designs, but the USB manual limits each design to 18 × 13 cm (7 × 5 in), so the field stays 5 × 7 in and the frame is entered at that per-position size. The manual's screen pictures are black and white, so the screen is entered as monochrome. Brother's USB manual describes a cable to a computer, where the machine shows up as a removable disk holding up to 12 patterns; a third-party manual site mentions flash drives, but Brother's manual does not. No weight or screen size is published by Brother, and the one dealer listing found gives conflicting screen sizes and is titled PE-700, so both are left empty. No new-price range was found, so none is given.

Frequently asked questions
What is the embroidery size of the Brother PE700II?
The largest design is 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm), and a 5 × 7 in hoop comes in the box. Brother's manual also lists optional 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm), small (about 1 × 2.5 in) and 12 × 5 in multi-position frames, but each design is still limited to 5 × 7 in.
What file formats does the Brother PE700II read?
Brother's USB manual lists .pes and .dst files only. Designs go in over the included USB cable from a Windows computer, where the machine appears as a removable disk. Brother's manual does not describe a USB flash drive port.
Is the Brother PE700II the same as the Brother PE700?
Brother's US site lists them as two separate machines on separate pages, and both are marked discontinued. Both pages show a 5 × 7 in area and 136 built-in designs. Check the model name on the machine before you buy parts or software.
Can the Brother PE700II embroider hats?
Brother lists no cap frame for the PE700II. Its frames (5 × 7 in, 4 × 4 in, small and multi-position) are flat, so it is not set up for finished caps.
How much does a Brother PE700II cost?
Brother US lists it as discontinued and shows no price, so any machine you find now is used, refurbished or leftover stock. Check the seller's return terms and ask whether the 5 × 7 in hoop, USB cable and manual are included.
