Baby Lock Flourish II: hoop size, file formats and specs
Also written: BLMFO2, Babylock Flourish II, Baby Lock Flourish 2, Babylock Flourish 2, Flourish 2
Baby Lock's single-needle, embroidery-only machine with a large 6-1/4 × 10-1/4 in (160 × 260 mm) field, 181 built-in designs and 850 stitches per minute. It takes designs by USB only, with no Wi-Fi or cap frame, and Baby Lock now lists it as a previous model.
The Baby Lock Flourish II is a discontinued embroidery-only machine with a 6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 181 built-in designs and 13 lettering fonts.
Flourish II hoop size and embroidery area
The Flourish II can stitch a design up to 6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm) in one hooping, which is the 6 × 10 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: 6-1/4 × 10-1/4 in hoop (extra large) (6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm)), 5 × 7 in hoop (large) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)).
Optional from Baby Lock: 4 × 4 in hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), 1 × 2-1/2 in hoop (small) (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)), 4 × 7 in border frame (4 × 7 in (100 × 180 mm)), 6 × 6 in quilt frame (5.9 × 5.9 in (150 × 150 mm)).
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the Flourish II use?
The Flourish II reads .PES, .PHC and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the Flourish II is for
A home embroiderer who wants a large single-needle field and is happy loading designs from a USB flash drive. Skip it if you want Wi-Fi, hats, a machine that also sews, or a model that Baby Lock still sells as current.
Strengths
- 6-1/4 × 10-1/4 in (160 × 260 mm) embroidery field, so larger designs stitch without re-hooping
- Two hoops in the box: 6-1/4 × 10-1/4 in and 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)
- 181 built-in designs (90 of them Baby Lock exclusives), 140 frame combinations and 13 fonts
- Top speed of 850 stitches per minute, and it trims jump stitches within a color
- Color LCD touch screen with on-screen editing: combine designs, rotate, mirror and edit lettering
Limits
- Embroidery only, with no sewing functions
- USB is the only way in: Baby Lock lists no Wi-Fi and no phone app for it
- Single needle, so you change the thread by hand for every color
- Baby Lock lists no cap frame, so it is not set up for finished hats
Good to know: Baby Lock's manual gives hoop sizes as height × width (the extra large hoop is 26 cm H × 16 cm W), so the 6-1/4 × 10-1/4 in hoop is 160 mm wide by 260 mm tall as attached. The four optional frames above (4 × 4 in, 1 × 2-1/2 in, 4 × 7 in border and 6 × 6 in quilt) come from the manual and spec sheet; neither lists a magnetic hoop. The product page gives 18.9 lb for the machine and 26.6 lb with the embroidery unit; 26.6 is used here, and the manual's figures (about 19.4 lb plus a 7.7 lb unit) are close. Baby Lock gives the screen as 4.85 × 2.5 in (width × height) rather than a diagonal, so the size is left blank. Baby Lock's page files it under previous machine models and shows no price; the closest current Baby Lock embroidery-only machine with the same 160 × 260 mm field is the Flare, but Baby Lock names no successor and no earlier model that this replaced, so none is linked. The release year is not published; the spec sheet carries a 7/17 print date, which is not a launch date. Designs larger than the field cannot be used even when rotated. A single design can hold up to about 200,000 stitches.
