Brother PRS100: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: Persona PRS100, Brother Persona PRS100, PRS-100, PRS 100

Single-needle, embroidery-only machine with an 8 × 8 in (200 × 200 mm) field, a free arm and an optional Brother cap frame for hats. It stitches up to 1,000 stitches per minute. You change colors by hand, and the cap frame is sold separately.

The Brother PRS100 is a embroidery-only machine with a 8 × 8 in (200 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST, .PEN files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 445 built-in designs and 21 lettering fonts.

PRS100 hoop size and embroidery area

The PRS100 can stitch a design up to 8 × 8 in (200 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 8 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

Cap frame: Cap frame set (PRCF3) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Flat brim cap frame set (PRCF5) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately.

Who the PRS100 is for

A home embroiderer or small seller who wants an 8 × 8 in field and a free arm for hats, sleeves and bags without paying for a multi-needle machine. Skip it if you need wireless transfer, automatic color changes, or hats straight out of the box.

Strengths

  • 8 × 8 in (200 × 200 mm) field, with the 8 × 8 in and 4 × 4 in hoops in the box
  • Free arm, plus official optional cap frames with a 130 × 60 mm (5 × 2.4 in) stitch area
  • Up to 1,000 stitches per minute on hoops, with an automatic thread cutter and upper and bobbin thread sensors
  • Six frames in the box, including four compact frames for pockets, sleeves and other small items
  • 7 in LCD touch screen and a Droplight positioning marker

Limits

  • Single needle, so you change thread by hand at every color change
  • No cap frame in the box; the cap frames are separate purchases
  • No wireless transfer and no Artspira support, so designs come in by USB
  • Cap embroidery runs slower, at 400 to 600 stitches per minute

Good to know: Persona is Brother's name for the PRS100. Brother US lists the PRCF3 and PRCF5 cap frame sets (both 130 × 60 mm) as compatible, and also sells a Durkee cap frame (SACFPRS) with a 5 × 4.5 in field that depends on how stiff the cap is. Brother's US headline says over 405 built-in designs while its spec table says 445; Brother says the 445 total includes fonts, frames and decorative alphabets. Brother US lists 21 fonts, while Brother Canada and some dealers say 20. Brother's box list and accessory pages disagree on whether the narrow 1.3 × 3 in compact frame is portrait or landscape; it is shown here as portrait. Brother's PRS100 FAQ lists only .pes, .phc and .dst, and Brother's general format page also lists .pen designs from iBroidery.com. Brother US gives no release year. Brother US lists a memory card reader as No, while Brother Canada lists an embroidery card option; the US spec is used.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Brother PRS100 embroider hats?

Yes, with an optional cap frame. Brother lists cap frame capability and names the PRCF3 and PRCF5 cap frame sets (130 × 60 mm stitch area) as compatible. No cap frame is in the box, and cap embroidery runs at 400 to 600 stitches per minute.

What hoop size does the Brother PRS100 use?

The largest is 8 × 8 in (200 × 200 mm), which is also the full embroidery field. The box also has a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) hoop, a 2 × 2 in frame and three more compact frames for small items.

What file formats does the Brother PRS100 read?

Brother's FAQ says it reads .pes, .phc and .dst files, and Brother's format page also lists .pen files from iBroidery.com. DST files carry no thread colors, so the machine assigns its own color order.

Does the Brother PRS100 have Wi-Fi?

No. Brother's spec lists wireless as No and does not list the PRS100 among Artspira-compatible machines. Designs go in by USB, and there is no memory card reader.
