Brother PR670E: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: Entrepreneur PR670E, Brother Entrepreneur PR670E, PR-670E, PR 670E

Discontinued six-needle machine from Brother with an 8 × 12 in (300 × 200 mm) field, a 10.1 in touch screen and speeds up to 1,000 stitches per minute. Four hoops come in the box. Cap frames are optional, and there is no Wi-Fi.

The Brother PR670E is a discontinued 6-needle embroidery machine with a 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer or Memory card, and has 60 built-in designs and 37 lettering fonts.

PR670E hoop size and embroidery area

The PR670E can stitch a design up to 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 12 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 8 × 12 in hoop (extra large) (12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm)), 5 × 7 in hoop (large) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), 4 × 4 in hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), 1.5 × 2 in hoop (small) (2.4 × 1.6 in (60 × 40 mm)).

Cap frame: Flat brim cap frame and driver set (PRCF5) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately.

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, full front, pocket, sleeve, cap front, cap side and back, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the PR670E use?

The PR670E reads .PES and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer or Memory card. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PR670E is for

A home embroiderer or small shop that wants six colors loaded at once and a large 8 × 12 in field, and is happy to buy used or leftover stock. Skip it if you want Wi-Fi or a machine Brother still sells new.

Strengths

  • Six needles hold six thread colors at once, with automatic needle threading and an automatic thread cutter
  • 8 × 12 in (300 × 200 mm) field, with 8 × 12, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in hoops listed with it
  • Variable speed from 400 to 1,000 stitches per minute
  • Large 10.1 in touch screen, an LED pointer for placement and 16 built-in video tutorials
  • Cap embroidery is possible with an optional cap frame such as the PRCF5, which stitches 130 × 60 mm (5 × 2.4 in)

Limits

  • Brother US lists it as discontinued, so any machine you find is used or leftover stock
  • No Wi-Fi; designs come in by USB, a computer link or the memory card reader
  • Brother's compatibility page names only .pes and .dst (plus .pen from iBroidery.com), so other formats need converting first
  • Cap frame is a separate purchase

Good to know: Brother US's PR670E page is marked discontinued and does not state a weight, a launch year, a file-format list or which cap frame is in the box. The 8 × 12 in field is confirmed in mm by Brother Australia's brochure (300 × 200 mm). Hoop sizes in mm are the standard Brother six-needle sizes also used on the PR680W and PR655 pages; Brother US names the four hoops in inches only. Brother's help page on unusable designs lists the PR670E among the machines it covers and names .pes and .dst, plus .pen files from iBroidery.com; the .phc format is not confirmed for this model, so it is left out. Brother US shows 60 built-in designs, 37 lettering fonts and 12 monogram styles. Cap frame: Brother US lists cap frame capability, and the PRCF5 flat brim set pages at Brother US and Brother Australia name the PR670E (130 × 60 mm). Brother's PRCF3 page does not list it. A trade-magazine listing says the PR-670EC variant ships with a cap frame and driver, but this was not confirmed for the PR670E, so no cap frame is counted as included. No Brother page names a predecessor or successor, so replaces and replacedBy are left empty. Brother US shows no price because the model is discontinued.

Frequently asked questions

What is the embroidery area of the Brother PR670E?

8 × 12 in (300 × 200 mm). Brother lists 8 × 12, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in hoops with the machine.

Can the Brother PR670E embroider hats?

Yes, with an optional cap frame. Brother lists cap frame capability, and its PRCF5 flat brim set names the PR670E and stitches a 130 × 60 mm (5 × 2.4 in) area. Do not assume a cap frame is in the box.

What file formats does the Brother PR670E read?

Brother's help page lists .pes and .dst, plus .pen files from iBroidery.com. DST files carry no thread colors, so the machine assigns its own color order.

Is the Brother PR670E still sold?

Brother US marks the PR670E as discontinued, so machines now turn up used or as old stock. Brother's current six-needle machine is the PR680W.

Brother PR670E or PR680W: what is the difference?

Both are six-needle machines with an 8 × 12 in (300 × 200 mm) field and a 10.1 in screen. The PR680W adds wireless LAN and the Artspira app, and Brother US still lists it as current while the PR670E is discontinued.
