Baby Lock Array: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: BMY6, Babylock Array, Baby Lock Array BMY6, Baby Lock Array 6-needle

Six-needle machine with a 7-7/8 × 11-3/4 in (200 × 300 mm) field, up to 1,000 stitches per minute, a crosshair positioning laser and a phone alert app. Four hoops come in the box. Baby Lock sells cap frames as options, and it does not sew.

The Baby Lock Array is a 6-needle embroidery machine with a 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and has 126 built-in designs and 50 lettering fonts.

Array hoop size and embroidery area

The Array can stitch a design up to 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 12 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 7-7/8 × 11-3/4 in hoop (extra large) (12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm)), 7 × 5 in hoop (large) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), 4 × 4 in hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), 2-3/8 × 1-1/2 in hoop (small) (2.4 × 1.6 in (60 × 40 mm)).

Cap frame: Cap frame set (EPCF3) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Flat brim cap frame set (EPCF4) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately.

What file format does the Array use?

The Array reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and the IQ Intuition Monitoring app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the Array is for

A hobbyist stepping up to production, or a small shop that wants six colors loaded at once and a large field for hats, jackets and bags. Skip it if a single-needle machine covers your projects.

Strengths

  • Six needles hold six thread colors at once, and it stitches up to 1,000 stitches per minute
  • 7-7/8 × 11-3/4 in (200 × 300 mm) field, with four hoops in the box
  • Official cap frames, regular and flat brim (130 × 60 mm), sold as options
  • Crosshair positioning laser and the IQ Intuition Monitoring app for thread-break and bobbin alerts on your phone
  • Wireless LAN plus three USB ports

Limits

  • No cap frame in the box; the cap frame sets are separate purchases
  • Costs several times more than a single-needle home machine
  • Heavy at about 84 lb (38 kg)
  • Field is 7-7/8 × 11-3/4 in, while Baby Lock's 10-needle Venture 2 stitches 7-7/8 × 14 in

Good to know: Baby Lock's product page lists 126 built-in designs and 50 fonts, while its spec sheet says 878 designs and 65 font styles; the product page figures are used here. Weight is 84 lb on the product page and 83 lb (38 kg) in the manual. The manual gives frame sizes as width × height: 300 × 200, 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm in the box, and 130 × 60 mm for both cap frames (EPCF-B regular, EPCF4H flat brim). The manual says the regular cap frame does not suit hats with a front panel of 50 mm (2 in) or less or a brim longer than 80 mm (3-1/8 in); the flat brim frame also handles flat brim and children's caps. Wireless uses 2.4 GHz and does not work with WPA/WPA2 Enterprise networks. Baby Lock lists no screen size or release year. Baby Lock's own site shows a manufacturer price; dealers often show a higher crossed-out regular price.

Frequently asked questions

How many needles does the Baby Lock Array have?

Six. Baby Lock lists it as a six-needle machine, so it holds six thread colors at once and stitches up to 1,000 stitches per minute.

What hoop sizes come with the Baby Lock Array?

Four: 300 × 200 mm (7-7/8 × 11-3/4 in), 180 × 130 mm (7 × 5 in), 100 × 100 mm (4 × 4 in) and 60 × 40 mm (2-3/8 × 1-1/2 in). The 300 × 200 mm hoop is also the full embroidery field.

Can the Baby Lock Array embroider hats?

Yes, with an optional cap frame set. Baby Lock lists a regular cap frame (EPCF3) and a flat brim cap frame (EPCF4), both with a 130 × 60 mm (5-1/8 × 2-3/8 in) area. A cap frame is not in the box.

What file formats does the Baby Lock Array read?

It reads .pes, .phc, .phx and .dst files. DST files carry no thread colors, so the machine shows its default color order.

Does the Baby Lock Array have Wi-Fi?

Yes. Wireless LAN sends designs from a PC and delivers software updates, and the machine also has USB ports. The IQ Intuition Monitoring app alerts your phone to thread breaks, bobbin changes and a finished design.
