The Brother PR1050X is a discontinued 10-needle embroidery machine with a 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST, .PEN files and gets designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer or Memory card, and has 699 built-in designs and 37 lettering fonts.

PR1050X hoop size and embroidery area

The PR1050X can stitch a design up to 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

Who the PR1050X is for

A small embroidery shop or serious hobbyist who wants ten colors loaded at once and a long 8 × 14 in field for hats, jackets and borders, and who can source one from a dealer or the used market. Check warranty and service terms first, because Brother lists it as discontinued.

Strengths

  • 10 needles hold ten thread colors at once, so big multi-color designs need fewer thread changes
  • 8 × 14 in (360 × 200 mm) field, with 8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in hoops in the box
  • Up to 1,000 stitches per minute, 699 built-in designs and 37 built-in lettering fonts
  • Official cap frames fit it: two 5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm) cap frames and a wide 14 × 2.4 in (360 × 60 mm) frame
  • Brother lists many other frames for it, including sleeve and jumbo frames, and the machine reads PES, PHC, DST and PEN files

Limits

  • Brother US and Brother Canada list it as discontinued, so new stock and service depend on dealers
  • No cap frame comes in the box; the cap frame sets are separate purchases
  • Brother's spec table lists USB, a computer link and a card reader but no wireless, while the later PR1055X is listed as wireless-enabled
  • 699 built-in designs, against 1,184 on the PR1055X

Good to know: Brother US and Brother Canada both mark the PR1050X discontinued, and Brother US shows no price. The one US dealer page checked says to call for pricing and does not state stock, so no new-price range is given. Brother US lists hoop sizes in inches only (8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in); the millimetre sizes (360 × 200, 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm) follow Brother's accessory guide for the PR1055X and PR1050X, which share the same hoops. The cap frame sizes (130 × 60 mm and the wide 360 × 60 mm frame) come from Brother's accessory guide and cap frame pages, which name the PR1050X as compatible. Brother also sells a 360 × 360 mm jumbo frame that stitches half a design, then rotates; the one-hooping field stays 360 × 200 mm. Brother US gives the screen as 5.3 × 8.5 in and Brother Canada as 10.1 in, which agree. Brother US lists no weight, so weight is left empty. A dealer page quotes wireless transfer and 110 built-in designs, but Brother US and Brother Canada list 699 designs and no wireless, so the maker's numbers are used. Brother's help page lists the PR1050X among machines that read .pes, .phc, .dst and .pen designs; it is not on Brother's Artspira compatibility list. The PR1050X, PR1055X and PR1060W are all 10-needle machines with the same 8 × 14 in field, but no Brother page says one replaces another, so replaces and replacedBy are left empty. The 2016 release year is inferred from Brother's manual dates (August to October 2016), not from a launch notice.
