Brother PR1X: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: Entrepreneur One PR1X, Brother Entrepreneur One, Entrepreneur One, PR-1X, PR 1X

Single-needle embroidery-only machine with a large 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) field, a free arm, a 7 in touch screen and 495 built-in designs. It stitches up to 1,000 stitches per minute. You change colors by hand, and it has no wireless transfer.

The Brother PR1X is a embroidery-only machine with a 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST, .PEN files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 495 built-in designs and 33 lettering fonts.

PR1X hoop size and embroidery area

The PR1X can stitch a design up to 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 12 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 12 × 8 in hoop (300 × 200 mm) (12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm)), 4 × 4 in hoop (100 × 100 mm) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)).

Cap frame: Flat brim cap frame (PRCF5) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately.

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, full front, pocket, sleeve, cap front, cap side and back, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the PR1X use?

The PR1X reads .PES, .PHC, .DST and .PEN files. You load designs by USB stick. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PR1X is for

A home or small-shop embroiderer who wants a big single-needle field and a free arm for shirts, bags and hats. Skip it if you want automatic color changes, wireless transfer, or the lower price of the 8 × 8 in PRS100.

Strengths

  • 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) field with the 12 × 8 in and 4 × 4 in hoops in the box
  • Free arm for sleeves, bags and caps, with cap frame capability listed by Brother
  • Up to 1,000 stitches per minute on frames
  • 495 built-in designs and 33 built-in lettering fonts
  • 7 in color LCD touch screen

Limits

  • Single needle, so you change thread by hand at every color change
  • No wireless transfer: Brother lists one USB port and computer connectivity
  • Cap embroidery runs slower, at 400 to 600 stitches per minute, and the cap frame is a separate purchase
  • Heavy at about 67 lb, and priced well above the PRS100

Good to know: Brother US lists the field as 8 × 12 in (the spec table writes 12 × 8) and gives no metric figure; 300 × 200 mm comes from Brother's carton list (300 mm × 200 mm frame) and dealers. Brother Canada gives about 305 × 203 mm. Brother US says cap frame capability is Yes but its PRCF3 and PRCF5 pages list the PR1X nowhere; Brother Australia's PRCF5 page lists the PR1X as compatible (130 × 60 mm), so the PRCF5 is shown as the optional cap frame. File formats are not listed on the PR1X page; the formats shown follow Brother's general US format page (.pes, .phc, .dst, .pen) and are unconfirmed for this model. Brother Canada's table shows the screen as 3.6 × 6.0 in while its description says 7.0 in; the 7 in figure is used. Weight 67.3 lb (Canada) to 67.5 lb (US). Price range runs from a dealer sale price to the dealer's regular price. Release year and any successor are not published.
