Also written: BLMA2, Meridian 2 BLMA2, Babylock Meridian 2, Baby Lock Meridian2, Meridian2

Baby Lock's single-needle embroidery-only machine with a large 9-1/2 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) field, 534 built-in designs and Wi-Fi. A camera app helps you place designs on the fabric. It tops out at 1,050 stitches per minute and has no cap frame.

The Baby Lock Meridian 2 is a embroidery-only machine with a 9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .PEC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and has 534 built-in designs and 30 lettering fonts.

Meridian 2 hoop size and embroidery area

The Meridian 2 can stitch a design up to 9.5 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) in one hooping, which is the 9.5 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

What file format does the Meridian 2 use?

Who the Meridian 2 is for

A good fit for embroiderers and quilters who want a big single-hooping field, a placement app and wireless transfer from one single-needle machine. Skip it if you want hats, a machine that also sews, or a smaller budget.

Strengths

  • Large 9-1/2 × 14 in (240 × 360 mm) embroidery field, with the big hoop and a 5 × 7 in hoop both in the box
  • Stitches up to 1,050 stitches per minute, with an automatic thread cutter and a threader that works on its own
  • 534 built-in designs and 30 built-in embroidery fonts, plus IQ Designer to draw or scan your own artwork on the machine
  • Wi-Fi: Design Database Transfer and Palette 11 send designs from a computer, and the IQ Intuition apps handle placement and progress alerts
  • An LED needle beam on the embroidery foot and 2-point positioning show where a design will land

Limits

  • Single needle, so you change the thread by hand for every color
  • Baby Lock's cap frame set does not list the Meridian 2, so it is not set up for finished hats
  • Embroidery only: it does not sew garments or quilt seams
  • Baby Lock's standard hoops, such as the 8 × 12 in and 6 × 6 in, are not recognized by the positioning app. Only the IQ Intuition hoops are

Good to know: Baby Lock's spec sheet gives the embroidery field as 9-1/2 × 14 in. Baby Lock's hoop pages give that big hoop as 240 × 360 mm, so the field is entered here as 240 × 360 mm with the 240 mm side as the width, the same way as other 9.5 × 14 in machines on this site. Baby Lock's spec sheet and top-of-page highlights give 534 built-in designs, as does a US dealer, but the details list further down Baby Lock's product page says 494, so 534 is used here. The product page also lists 140 frame patterns and 30 fonts. Baby Lock's page gives the weight as 33.1 lb for the machine alone and 43.2 lb with the embroidery unit; the 43.2 lb figure is used. It gives no screen size, only a touchscreen with a stylus in the box, so the size is left blank. The page also gives no launch year. Baby Lock's spec sheet and accessory pages list two hoops in the box (9-1/2 × 14 in and 5 × 7 in). Baby Lock's product page also lists 8 × 8 in, 6 × 6 in, 8 × 12 in, 4 × 4 in, 4 × 12 in border and 1 × 2-1/2 in hoops as extras, and its spec sheet adds a 9-1/2 × 9-1/2 in hoop and a 7 × 12 in magnetic frame. Baby Lock gives the 7 × 12 in magnetic frame in inches only; the millimeter size here follows Baby Lock's 7 × 12 in (180 × 300 mm) naming for its other hoops. The small 1 × 2-1/2 in hoop is listed as 60 × 20 mm on the spec sheet and 20 × 60 mm on its own page, so the spec sheet order is used. Baby Lock's hoop pages list the Meridian and Meridian 2 together for the 8 × 8, 8 × 12, 9-1/2 × 9-1/2 in and border hoops, and one USB media chart covers both models plus the Altair and Altair 2. Baby Lock does not say that the Meridian 2 replaces the Meridian, and the original Meridian is not in this site's list of planned models, so no replaces link is set. Baby Lock lists two USB Type A ports. Baby Lock's quick guide says the machine supports a wireless network for updates, Design Database Transfer and Palette, and the IQ Technology apps send images from a phone or tablet. Baby Lock sells through dealers, and prices vary by dealer and by sale.
