Also written: LB-6800PRW, LB6800-PRW, LB 6800PRW, Project Runway LB6800PRW

The Project Runway Limited Edition of Brother's LB6800: a discontinued sewing and embroidery combo with a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) field, 70 built-in designs, 5 fonts and 67 stitches. Designs come from a computer by USB cable or from Brother cards. No Wi-Fi, and the screen is monochrome.

The Brother LB6800PRW is a discontinued sewing and embroidery machine with a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .DST files and gets designs by USB cable to a computer or Memory card, and has 70 built-in designs and 5 lettering fonts.

LB6800PRW hoop size and embroidery area

The LB6800PRW can stitch a design up to 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) in one hooping, which is the 4 × 4 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 4" × 4" hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)).

Optional from Brother: Large frame (about 4" × 6.7", optional; each design still 4" × 4") (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small frame (about 2.5" × 1") (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)).

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, baby onesie, baby bib, patch.

What file format does the LB6800PRW use?

The LB6800PRW reads .PES and .DST files. You load designs by USB cable to a computer or Memory card. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the LB6800PRW is for

A fit for someone who finds one used or refurbished and wants a single machine for everyday sewing plus small embroidery such as names and pocket designs. Skip it if you want Wi-Fi, a USB-stick slot, a color screen or designs bigger than 4 × 4 in.

Strengths

  • Sews and embroiders: 67 built-in sewing stitches (including 10 one-step buttonholes) and 70 built-in embroidery designs
  • 5 lettering fonts and 120 frame-pattern combinations (10 shapes × 12 stitch types) for names and borders
  • Reads .pes and .dst files from a computer over the USB cable, and has a built-in slot for Brother embroidery cards
  • A 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) hoop and eight presser feet (embroidery foot included) came with it, plus a Project Runway rolling bag per Brother's spec sheet
  • Push-button thread cutter, a one-lever needle threader and a quick-set bobbin

Limits

  • The embroidery field is only 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm), and the optional large frame does not make a single design bigger
  • Small monochrome screen (2.7 × 1.4 in) with no color preview
  • Embroidery speed tops out at 400 stitches per minute, and it is a single needle, so you change thread by hand for every color
  • No Wi-Fi and no USB-stick slot, and it reads only .pes and .dst, so other formats such as .jef or .exp need converting first

Good to know: This is Brother's Project Runway Limited Edition of the LB6800. We found no current Brother US product page for the PRW edition, so its figures come from Brother's LB6800 spec sheet (which is headed LB-6800PRW) and Brother's LB6800 product page, whose field, designs, fonts and sewing-stitch counts match. Brother's operation manual and USB guide name the LB-6800, not the PRW, so the file types and frames are taken from them on the basis that the PRW is the same machine. The spec sheet gives the screen as 2.7 × 1.4 in (width × height) and monochrome; the 3 in shown here is the diagonal worked out from that. Brother's LB6800 page gives the weight as 13.669 with no unit, so the 13.7 lb here assumes pounds. Brother's spec sheet and LB6800 product page say 5 lettering fonts, while the manual lists 5 character types (upper case, lower case, numbers, symbols and European characters) and has a font-choice step without giving a font count, so the 5 comes from the maker's spec sheet. The manual also lists an optional large frame for placing several designs without re-hooping (up to 4 × 6.7 in, 100 × 170 mm) and a small frame (about 2.5 × 1 in, 60 × 20 mm); each design still has to fit within 4 × 4 in, and we did not confirm these frames are still for sale. The machine keeps up to 12 saved patterns, or 512 KB. The USB port is a link to a computer, and the manuals describe no flash-drive use. Brother's LB6800 web page lists no card reader, but the PRW spec sheet and the manual both show a built-in embroidery card slot, so we follow those. Brother lists no cap frame for it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Brother LB6800PRW?

It is the Project Runway Limited Edition of Brother's LB6800 sewing and embroidery combo. Brother's spec sheet gives it a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) embroidery field, 70 built-in designs and 67 sewing stitches, and says a Project Runway rolling bag came with it.

What are the Brother LB6800PRW embroidery hoop sizes?

One 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) hoop came in the box, and that is also the largest design size. Brother's manual lists an optional small frame (about 2.5 × 1 in) and an optional large frame (about 4 × 6.7 in) for placing several designs, but each design still has to fit within 4 × 4 in.

What embroidery file types does the Brother LB6800PRW read?

Brother's USB guide, which names the LB-6800, says only .pes and .dst files can be used. You copy them from a computer over the included USB cable, or you use Brother embroidery cards in the built-in card slot.

Is the Brother LB6800PRW the same as the LB6800?

Brother's figures match on the 4 × 4 in field, 70 built-in designs, 5 fonts and 67 sewing stitches. The PRW is the Project Runway Limited Edition, and Brother's spec sheet lists a custom rolling bag with it that the standard LB6800 page does not.

Is the Brother LB6800PRW still sold new, and what does it cost?

Brother lists the standard LB6800 as discontinued and we found no current Brother US page for the PRW edition. We show no price range because new stock is not reliably available, so check whether a unit is new, refurbished or used before you buy.
