NQ3700D hoop size and embroidery area

The NQ3700D can stitch a design up to 6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm) in one hooping, which is the 6 × 10 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

What file format does the NQ3700D use?

The NQ3700D reads .PES, .PHC, .PEN and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and the Artspira app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the NQ3700D is for

A fit for sewists who want one machine for everyday sewing and quilting plus bigger embroidery than the usual 5 × 7 in field, such as large designs and combined layouts. Skip it if you only want to embroider (the NQ1700E has the same field without sewing), want to embroider finished caps, or plan to embroider in volume.

Strengths

  • 6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm) embroidery field, with both 6 × 10 in and 5 × 7 in hoops in the box
  • Sews and embroiders: 291 built-in sewing stitches and 313 built-in embroidery designs, 55 of them Disney/Pixar
  • Wi-Fi transfer with Brother's Design Database Transfer software (no USB needed), plus a USB port
  • 4.85 in color touchscreen with on-screen editing, 13 embroidery fonts and 140 frame-pattern combinations
  • 13 presser feet and a knee lifter come in the box, including a free-motion quilting foot

Limits

  • Single needle, so you change thread color by hand
  • Brother lists no cap frame for it, so it is not set up for finished hats
  • Reads only PES, PHC, PEN and DST files, so JEF, EXP or VP3 designs need converting first
  • The USB cable is not included, and the Design Database Transfer software is for Windows

Good to know: Brother's manual lists the largest design as 26 × 16 cm (H × W), which Brother markets as 6 × 10 in, so the hoop is 160 mm wide and 260 mm tall as attached. The manual also shows 4 × 4 in and 1 × 2-1/2 in frames as sold separately with some models; Brother US does not list them on the NQ3700D page, so check availability with a dealer. Brother's 5 × 7 in magnetic frame (SAMF180) lists the NQ3700D as compatible. The same Brother manual covers the NQ3700D and the NQ3550W. Brother's manual and Brother US page give 70 to 850 stitches per minute as the sewing speed; Brother Canada's product page says the machine embroiders and sews at up to 850 stitches per minute, and dealer spec lists agree. The manual gives about 22 lb (10 kg) without the embroidery unit and about 30 lb (13.5 kg) with it. Brother US shows a 4.2 × 2.4 in screen size (width × height), about 4.85 in on the diagonal. The release year comes from the date of Brother's first design guide and accessory sheet, not from a launch announcement.
