8 × 12 in embroidery hoop (200 × 300 mm)

A big hoop with a 200 × 300 mm (about 8 × 12 in) stitch area. It fits large chest and back designs, banners and big in-the-hoop projects. Most single-needle home machines stop at 5 × 7 or 6 × 10 in, so check your maximum area first.

A 8 × 12 in hoop gives about 93 square inches of stitch area: 8 × 12 in (200 × 300 mm). 37 machines in our guide can stitch this size in one hooping.

Good to know: Brother lists 8 × 12 in on its PR680W page on brother-usa.com and 200 × 300 mm for the PR1X on Brother Australia, and Embird lists Brother's PR-600 and Quattro hoops at 200 × 300 mm. Because 8 × 12 in is 203 × 305 mm, keep designs a little under 200 × 300 mm. Janome's nearest hoop is the RE28b, 7.9 × 11 in (200 × 280 mm), which is 20 mm shorter. Husqvarna Viking's Crown and Pfaff's Elite hoops are 260 × 200 mm, and Janome's RE36b, Viking's Royal and Pfaff's Deluxe are 200 × 360 mm. They sit either side of 8 × 12 but are not the same hoop. If a design is bigger than your field, split it in software and re-hoop. A multi-position hoop lets you stitch several sections without re-hooping, but it does not enlarge the machine's maximum area. For jackets, placement guides put the design 7 to 10 in (180 to 255 mm) below the neck, and a thick jacket can need a larger hoop than the design alone would call for.
