Brother PR600II: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: PR-600II, PR 600II, Brother PR-600II

Discontinued six-needle Brother with an 11.8 × 7.9 in (300 × 200 mm) field, four hoops in the box and up to 1,000 stitches per minute. It reads PES, PHC and DST by USB and takes an optional cap frame. No Wi-Fi, few built-in designs, and it weighs about 81 lb.

The Brother PR600II is a discontinued 6-needle embroidery machine with a 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or Memory card, and has 13 built-in designs and 13 lettering fonts.

PR600II hoop size and embroidery area

The PR600II can stitch a design up to 12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 12 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: Extra-large hoop (about 11.8 × 7.9 in) (12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm)), Large hoop (about 7.1 × 5.1 in) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), Medium hoop (4 × 4 in) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small hoop (about 2.4 × 1.6 in) (2.4 × 1.6 in (60 × 40 mm)).

Cap frame: Standard cap frame (PRCFH1, needs cap frame driver) (5 × 2 in (130 × 50 mm)), sold separately; Advanced cap frame (PRCFH2, needs cap frame driver) (5 × 2 in (130 × 50 mm)), sold separately.

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, full front, pocket, sleeve, cap front, cap side and back, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the PR600II use?

The PR600II reads .PES, .PHC and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or Memory card. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PR600II is for

A used-machine buyer who wants a six-needle Brother with a large field for small runs and is happy to move designs by USB drive or cable. Skip it if you want Wi-Fi, an app, a warranty from a new sale or a machine Brother still sells.

Strengths

  • Six needles hold six thread colors at once, so a design with six or fewer colors runs without a thread swap
  • 11.8 × 7.9 in (300 × 200 mm) field, with extra-large, large, medium and small hoops in the box
  • Up to 1,000 stitches per minute on flat work, and up to 600 per minute with the cap frame
  • Optional standard and advanced cap frames let it embroider finished caps
  • Reads .pes, .phc and .dst files from USB media or from a computer over the included USB cable

Limits

  • Brother's US page lists it as discontinued and names no replacement
  • No Wi-Fi: designs come in by USB media, USB cable or optional embroidery card
  • Few built-in designs, so you will mostly run your own files or sold-separately cards
  • Heavy and large at about 81 lb (37 kg), and the cap frame, driver and hooping jig are separate purchases

Good to know: Brother's manual gives hoop and field sizes as height × width; this file lists width first, so the field is 300 wide × 200 high (mm). The manual's spec table lists the four flat frames as 300 × 200, 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm, and the cap area as 130 × 50 mm. Brother says the cap frame does not fit hats with a front panel of 50 mm (2 in) or less or a brim longer than 80 mm (3-1/8 in), and it needs the cap frame driver and a mounting jig. The machine ships set to 600 stitches per minute and the top speed can be raised to 1,000; with the cap frame the range is 400 to 600. Brother's pages state no count of built-in designs. The 13 here is counted from the illustrated pattern summary in Brother's quick reference guide (13 embroidery designs, plus two practice patterns, ten frame shapes and 13 lettering fonts, with Renaissance, floral and appliqué alphabets on top). Brother does not publish the screen size, so it is left blank; the screen is a color touch panel. Brother's support page covers the PR-620, PR-620C, PR-600II and PR-600IIC together. One US dealer lists the machine as the PR600II Innov-is; Brother's own manual just calls it the PR-600II. Brother's support page also lists user's guides for an optional flat frame for oversized fabric and an optional cylinder frame (90 × 80 mm area) for bags and tubular items; neither is listed above as a hoop, because the flat frame's guide gives no stitch area and the cylinder frame is not a flat hoop. Brother's manual for it is dated 2005 on its support site, but the US launch year is not stated, so it is left blank. It is not sold new, so there is no price range.

Frequently asked questions

What is the embroidery area of the Brother PR600II?

11.8 × 7.9 in (300 × 200 mm). Four hoops come in the box: extra large (that full size), large (7.1 × 5.1 in, 180 × 130 mm), medium (4 × 4 in, 100 × 100 mm) and small (2.4 × 1.6 in, 60 × 40 mm).

Does the Brother PR600II have a cap frame or hat hoop?

Not in the box, but Brother lists optional standard and advanced cap frames for it. Each needs the cap frame driver and a hooping jig, and the cap area is 5.1 × 2 in (130 × 50 mm). Brother says it will not fit hats with a front panel of 2 in or less or a brim longer than 3-1/8 in.

What file formats does the Brother PR600II read?

Brother's manual lists .pes, .phc and .dst. Load them from USB media in the USB-A port, or send them from a computer through the included USB cable. Keep files in the top level of the drive, because the machine cannot read designs stored in folders.

How fast does the Brother PR600II embroider?

Up to 1,000 stitches per minute on flat work, set in steps of 100 between 600 and 1,000. With the cap frame the top is 600, in steps of 50 from 400. It comes set to 600 out of the box.

Is the Brother PR600II still sold new?

No. Brother's US page lists it as discontinued and names no replacement. Brother still posts its manuals and downloads, and US dealers still list parts for it, but machines now come from the used market.
