The Brother PR1000e is a discontinued 10-needle embroidery machine with a 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer, and has 110 built-in designs and 28 lettering fonts.
PR1000e hoop size and embroidery area
The PR1000e can stitch a design up to 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: 8 × 14 in hoop (extra large) (14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm)), 5 × 7 in hoop (medium) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), 4 × 4 in hoop (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), 1.5 × 2 in hoop (small) (2.4 × 1.6 in (60 × 40 mm)).
Optional from Brother: 8 × 12 in hoop (large, PRH300) (12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm)).
Cap frame: Cap frame and driver set (PRCF3) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Flat brim cap frame and driver set (PRCF5) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Wide cap frame set (PRPCF1) (14 × 2.4 in (360 × 60 mm)), sold separately.
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, full front, pocket, sleeve, cap front, cap side and back, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the PR1000e use?
The PR1000e reads .PES, .PHC and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or USB cable to a computer. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the PR1000e is for
A home-based seller or serious hobbyist who wants ten colors loaded at once and a long 14 × 8 in field for jackets, hats and borders, and who is happy to buy from dealer stock or second-hand. Skip it if you want wireless transfer or an app, or a machine Brother still sells.
Strengths
- 10 needles hold ten thread colors at once, so multi-color designs need fewer thread changes
- 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) field, with 8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in hoops in the box
- Built-in InnovEye camera shows the needle area on the 4.4 × 7.3 in color touch screen to help line up a design
- Official cap frames: 5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm) driver sets (PRCF3 and flat brim PRCF5) and a wide 14 × 2-3/8 in frame that stitches almost ear to ear
- Speed adjusts from 400 to 1,000 stitches per minute on flat frames (400 to 600 on cap frames)
Limits
- Brother US and Brother Canada both mark it discontinued, so stock, parts and warranty depend on the seller
- No cap frame in the box, and caps stitch at 600 stitches per minute at most
- Brother lists USB and computer connectivity but no wireless, and it is not on Brother's Artspira list
- Reads only .pes, .phc and .dst files, per Brother's FAQ for the machine
Good to know: Brother US marks the PR1000e discontinued and its product page gives no spec table, so the specs here come from Brother's 2014 and 2015 product lineup brochures (linked from that page), Brother Canada's product page, Brother's support FAQ for the machine and Brother's accessory pages. The operation manual PDF was too large to open; the file formats come from Brother's FAQ and the other specs from the brochures. Both brochures give the field as 14 × 8 in without millimetres and say four frames come in the box (14 × 8, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 2 × 1.5 in). Brother US's page for the PRPH360 frame (14 × 8 in, made for the PR1000 series) gives 360 × 200 mm, and Echidna Sewing's list of Brother maximum fields shows the same 200 × 360 mm for the PR1000E. The 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm hoop sizes follow Brother's metric sizes for that family; Brother's PRH60 page gives the smallest hoop as 1-1/2 × 2-3/8 in. Brother gives the screen as 4.4 × 7.3 in, which works out to about 8.5 in on the diagonal. Brother's 2014 brochure lists three USB ports and its 2015 brochure lists two. The optional 8 × 12 in hoop (PRH300) fits inside the 14 × 8 in field. Brother Canada also lists a 14 × 14 in jumbo frame and a 4 × 12 in border frame; they are not counted as hoops because the one-hooping field stays 14 × 8 in. Brother's support page for the machine also lists a PRMH50 magnetic frame manual; that frame is only 50 × 50 mm (2 × 2 in), so it is not listed as a hoop here. Brother US's pages for the PRCF3 cap frame set, the PRCF5 flat brim cap frame set and the PRPCF1 wide cap frame all name the PR1000e; the PRCF3 page adds a note that it is compatible with Version 2.10 only, so check with a dealer. The PRCF3 area is 130 × 60 mm on Brother US, and Brother Australia gives the same 130 × 60 mm for the PRCF5. Brother US's text for the wide cap frame reads 14 × 2-3/8 in with a garbled metric size ('60mm x3 60mm'), which is read here as 60 × 360 mm. Brother's pages do not name a successor or a model this one replaced, so replaces and replacedBy are left empty; the PR1050X, PR1055X and PR1060W are later Brother 10-needle models with the same 14 × 8 in field. The 2011 release year is inferred from the date of Brother's first operation manual (August 2011) and a dealer listing that gives 2011 as its first year of sale, not from a launch notice. No new US price was found for this discontinued machine, so priceRange is left empty.

Frequently asked questions
What is the embroidery area of the Brother PR1000e?
14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm). Brother puts four hoops in the box (8 × 14, 5 × 7, 4 × 4 and 1.5 × 2 in), and an optional 8 × 12 in (300 × 200 mm) hoop also fits inside the field.
Does the Brother PR1000e have a hat hoop or cap frame?
Cap frames are optional, not in the box. Brother lists the PRCF3 and PRCF5 flat brim driver sets (130 × 60 mm, about 5 × 2.4 in each) and the PRPCF1 wide cap frame (14 × 2-3/8 in) for it. Cap frames run at 400 to 600 stitches per minute.
Is the Brother PR1000e still sold new, and what does it cost?
Brother US and Brother Canada both mark it discontinued, and Brother US shows no price. Any machine you find now is dealer stock or second-hand, so ask about warranty and service before you buy.
What file formats does the Brother PR1000e read?
Brother's FAQ for the machine lists .pes, .phc and .dst. DST files carry no thread colors, so the machine applies its default colors and you adjust them on screen.
Can I use magnetic hoops on the Brother PR1000e?
Brother's manual list for the PR1000e includes instructions for its PRMH50 magnetic frame, which is a small 2 × 2 in (50 × 50 mm) frame. Brother does not list third-party hoops such as Mighty Hoops for it, so check the hoop maker's compatibility list for the PR1000e first.
