Baby Lock Verve: hoop size, file formats and specs
Also written: BLMVR, Verve, Babylock Verve
Baby Lock's entry-level sewing and embroidery combo. It has a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) embroidery field, 95 built-in designs, 11 fonts, 191 sewing stitches and USB. The small field is the main limit, there is no Wi-Fi, and Baby Lock now files it under previous models.
The Baby Lock Verve is a discontinued sewing and embroidery machine with a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 95 built-in designs and 11 lettering fonts.
Verve hoop size and embroidery area
The Verve can stitch a design up to 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) in one hooping, which is the 4 × 4 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: 4" × 4" hoop (medium, EF62) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)).
Optional from Baby Lock: Multi-position hoop (EF71, 4" × 4" per position, about 6.7" × 4" across positions) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small frame (EF61, about 1" × 2.5") (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)).
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, baby onesie, baby bib, patch.

What file format does the Verve use?
The Verve reads .PES, .PHC and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the Verve is for
A fit for beginners who want one compact machine for everyday sewing plus small embroidery such as names, pockets and patches, if they can find one used or from leftover dealer stock. Skip it if you want designs bigger than 4 × 4 in, wireless transfer, finished hats or a machine Baby Lock still sells new.
Strengths
- Sews and embroiders: 191 built-in sewing stitches, 95 built-in embroidery designs and 140 frame patterns
- 11 built-in lettering fonts (10 in upper and lower case, plus one floral capitals set), with adjustable stitch density on the built-in fonts
- Reads .pes, .phc and .dst design files from a USB flash drive through its Type A port
- Embroiders at up to 400 stitches per minute and sews at up to 850
- A 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) hoop, an extension table and a hard cover come in the box; the machine weighs about 15.5 lb (7 kg), or about 18.5 lb (8.4 kg) with the embroidery unit
Limits
- The embroidery field is only 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm), and the optional multi-position frame still limits each design to that size
- USB only: Baby Lock lists no Wi-Fi and no companion app for it
- Single needle, so you change the thread by hand for every color
- Baby Lock lists no cap frame for it, so it is not set up for finished hats
Good to know: Baby Lock's web spec table gives 125 built-in designs and 10 fonts, and its description text gives 850 stitches per minute. Baby Lock's PDF spec sheet and feature list say 95 designs and 11 fonts (10 in upper and lower case plus one floral capitals set), and split the speed into up to 850 for sewing and up to 400 for embroidery. This file follows the spec sheet. The web table lists only .pes and .dst files, but the manual also lists .phc. The screen is 3.2 × 1.8 in (width × height) on Baby Lock's page, about 3.7 in across. The manual lists an optional multi-position frame (EF71) that lets you combine designs across about 6.7 × 4 in without re-hooping, but it limits each design to 4 × 4 in, so the field stays 4 × 4 in. The manual's table writes that frame as 17 cm × 10 cm (height × width) while the spec sheet says 170 × 100 mm, so the orientation is not clear. The small EF61 frame is listed as 2 × 6 cm (height × width), entered here as 60 mm wide by 20 mm tall. Baby Lock lists no cap frame; a third-party dealer lists a 4 × 4 in cap frame from another company as compatible, but it is not a Baby Lock accessory, so capFrame is false. Baby Lock lists the Verve on its Previous Models pages, where the page still carries manuals and accessories, but it never says the machine is discontinued. Dealer pages show it as out of stock or no longer available. Baby Lock gives no launch year and shows no price for the machine. No price range is shown because it is no longer a current Baby Lock model.

Frequently asked questions
What is the embroidery size of the Baby Lock Verve?
The largest design is 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm). One 4 × 4 in hoop comes in the box. An optional multi-position frame lets you combine designs across about 6.7 × 4 in without re-hooping, but each single design is still limited to 4 × 4 in.
Is the Baby Lock Verve a sewing machine or an embroidery machine?
Both. It has 191 built-in sewing stitches and a detachable embroidery unit with a 4 × 4 in field. It weighs about 15.5 lb (7 kg) in sewing mode and about 18.5 lb (8.4 kg) with the embroidery unit attached.
How much does the Baby Lock Verve cost?
Baby Lock shows no price for the machine and now files it under previous models, so it is no longer a current Baby Lock machine. Dealers that still list it show it as out of stock or no longer available. Used and leftover-stock prices vary, so ask a dealer for a current quote. No price range is shown here because we could not confirm one.
What embroidery file formats does the Baby Lock Verve read?
Its manual lists .pes, .phc and .dst files, loaded from a USB flash drive. Baby Lock lists no Wi-Fi. Designs must fit within 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) and be up to 50,000 stitches.
Can the Baby Lock Verve embroider hats?
Baby Lock lists no cap frame for the Verve, so it is not set up for finished caps. Its 4 × 4 in hoop is made for flat fabric.
