Baby Lock Venture: hoop size, file formats and specs
Also written: BMVT10, Babylock Venture, Baby Lock Venture BMVT10, Baby Lock Venture 10-needle
Baby Lock's 10-needle embroidery machine: a 7-7/8 × 14 in (200 × 360 mm) field, up to 1,000 stitches per minute and four hoops in the box. Cap frames are optional. Baby Lock now files it under Previous Models and sells the Venture 2 instead.
The Baby Lock Venture is a discontinued 10-needle embroidery machine with a 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi or USB cable to a computer, and has 170 built-in designs and 51 lettering fonts.
Venture hoop size and embroidery area
The Venture can stitch a design up to 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) in one hooping, which is the 8 × 14 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.
In the box: 7-7/8 × 14 in hoop (extra large) (14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm)), 5-1/8 × 7-1/8 in hoop (large) (7 × 5 in (180 × 130 mm)), 4 × 4 in hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), 1-1/2 × 2-3/8 in hoop (small) (2.4 × 1.6 in (60 × 40 mm)).
Optional from Baby Lock: 14 × 8 in magnetic frame (ENMF360) (14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm)), 7-7/8 × 11-3/4 in flat frame (BMP-FF) (12 × 8 in (300 × 200 mm)), 8 × 8 in quilting hoop (ENF200) (8 × 8 in (200 × 200 mm)).
Cap frame: Advanced cap frame 2 set (EPCF3) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Flat brim cap frame set (EPCF4) (5 × 2.4 in (130 × 60 mm)), sold separately; Wide cap frame set (ENCFS) (14 × 2.4 in (360 × 60 mm)), sold separately.
Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, full front, pocket, sleeve, cap front, cap side and back, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, tote bag, pillow cover, quilt block, patch.

What file format does the Venture use?
The Venture reads .PES, .PHC, .PHX and .DST files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi or USB cable to a computer, and the IQ Intuition Monitoring app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the Venture is for
A home business or small shop that wants ten colors loaded at once and a large field for jackets, bags and hats, and that can find one from dealer stock. Skip it if you only stitch small designs, or if you want a machine Baby Lock still sells new.
Strengths
- Ten needles hold ten thread colors at once, so most designs run without stopping to change thread
- 7-7/8 × 14 in (200 × 360 mm) embroidery field, with four hoops in the box from 1-1/2 × 2-3/8 in up to the full field
- Stitches up to 1,000 stitches per minute
- Baby Lock sells official cap frame sets as options: two 130 × 60 mm sets (advanced and flat brim) and a wide one (360 × 60 mm)
- NeedleCam camera for placement, IQ Designer for drawing or scanning art on screen, and phone alerts for thread breaks and bobbin changes through the IQ Intuition Monitoring app
Limits
- Baby Lock lists it under Previous Models; the 10-needle machine it sells now is the Venture 2
- No cap frame comes in the box, so hat work means buying a cap frame set
- Heavy at about 92 lb (41.8 kg), machine only
- Embroidery only: it does not sew
Good to know: Baby Lock's instruction guide, product page and spec sheet agree on the 7-7/8 × 14 in field (200 × 360 mm), 1,000 stitches per minute and four hoops in the box: 7-7/8 × 14 in, 5-1/8 × 7-1/8 in, 4 × 4 in and 1-1/2 × 2-3/8 in. The guide gives frame sizes as width × height, so the data here uses 360 × 200, 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm; the spec sheet and product page print the same sizes as height × width (for example 200 × 360 mm and 130 × 180 mm). The guide gives a speed range of 400 to 1,000 stitches per minute and says some frames limit the top speed to 600. The product page lists 170 built-in designs, 140 frame patterns, and 51 fonts plus 3 monogramming fonts; the spec sheet counts the 51 fonts as 36 regular, 1 exclusive and 14 fancy. File formats: the instruction guide's specification table lists .pes, .phc, .phx and .dst, and the spec sheet agrees. The product page also lists .pen, but the guide does not, so .pen is left out. The machine saves patterns it creates as .phx. Baby Lock's pages give no screen size. Two US dealer listings give 10.1 in, and the spec sheet calls it a color IPS (TFT) touch screen. The guide's specification table gives the weight as 41.8 kg (92 lb) and the product page says 94 lb; the guide's figure is used. The guide lists a wireless LAN connection (2.4 GHz, not WPA/WPA2 Enterprise), and the spec sheet says up to 10 machines can link to Palette 11 or newer software over it. It also lists three USB ports (two Type A, one Type B) and a USB cable in the box. Three official cap frames are listed as optional: the advanced cap frame 2 set (EPCF3) and flat brim cap frame set (EPCF4), both 130 × 60 mm, and the wide cap frame set (ENCFS, 360 × 60 mm). The guide says the advanced and wide frames do not suit hats with a front panel of 50 mm (2 in) or less or a brim longer than 80 mm (3-1/8 in), and the flat brim frame also handles flat brim and children's caps. Baby Lock also sells a 14 × 14 in (360 × 360 mm) jumbo hoop for the Venture; it is meant for split designs made in Palette software, and the one-hooping field stays 7-7/8 × 14 in. Other optional frames in the guide include a 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm) clamp frame, an 11-3/4 × 4 in (300 × 100 mm) border frame and a 2-3/4 × 7-7/8 in (70 × 200 mm) sleeve frame; the spec sheet rounds the sleeve frame to 3 × 8 in. Baby Lock's pages do not say the Venture 2 (BMVT10-2) replaces it, so replacedBy is left empty. The Venture 2 has the same 7-7/8 × 14 in field and four hoops, with 120 built-in designs and 65 fonts. Baby Lock lists the Venture under Previous Models and shows no price for it, so no price range is given.

The largest design is 7-7/8 × 14 in (200 × 360 mm). Four hoops come in the box, and the biggest one is the full field. Baby Lock also sells a 14 × 14 in jumbo hoop, but the one-hooping field stays 7-7/8 × 14 in.
Is the Baby Lock Venture discontinued?
Baby Lock lists the Venture (BMVT10) under Previous Models and sells the Venture 2 (BMVT10-2) as its current 10-needle machine. Baby Lock does not say the Venture 2 replaces it, and some dealers may still have stock.
How much does the Baby Lock Venture cost?
Baby Lock shows no price for the Venture, and it files the machine under Previous Models. A dealer that still has one sets its own price, so ask a Baby Lock dealer for a quote.
Are there magnetic hoops for the Baby Lock Venture?
Yes. Baby Lock lists a 14 × 8 in (360 × 200 mm) magnetic frame (ENMF360) for the Venture. It matches the full embroidery field.
Can the Baby Lock Venture embroider hats?
Yes, with an optional cap frame set. Baby Lock sells two 130 × 60 mm sets (advanced cap frame 2 and flat brim) and a wide cap frame set (360 × 60 mm), each with a frame, driver and mounting jig. No cap frame comes in the box.
