Elna Air Artist: hoop size, file formats and specs

Elna's small, app-run, embroidery-only machine. It has a 4 × 4 in (102 × 102 mm) field, plus 260 designs and 12 fonts in the free dot Customizer app, sent over wireless. It has no screen, USB port or larger hoop, so you need a phone or tablet and cannot stitch bigger designs.

The Air Artist can stitch a design up to 4 × 4 in (102 × 102 mm) in one hooping, which is the 4 × 4 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

What file format does the Air Artist use?

The Air Artist reads .JEF files. You load designs by Wi-Fi, and the dot Customizer app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .EXP or .PES) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the Air Artist is for

A fit for beginners who want to stitch small designs such as names, patches and pocket logos, and who are happy to run everything from a phone or tablet. Skip it if you want a screen or USB port on the machine, designs bigger than 4 × 4 in, hats, or volume work: Elna's manual says it is for household use only.

  • Single needle with no hat frame: Elna's manual has you change colors, trim threads and thread the needle by hand
  • Elna does not list the file types the app can import, so using your own digitized designs is harder to plan

Good to know: Elna's manual gives the SQ10c hoop a 102 mm (4.0 in) square embroidery area, and the US product page rounds this to 4 × 4 in. The 260 designs and 12 fonts live in the dot Customizer app, not on the machine; the manual says to keep built-in designs between 80% and 120% of their size, and that designs imported from outside the app must fit the 4 × 4 in hoop and be stitched as a sample first. Elna's March 2026 accessory catalogue lists no hoops, cap frame or magnetic hoop for the Air Artist, so none is confirmed. Elna's FAQ keeps fabric to about 1/12 in (0.2 cm) thick and says it stitches about 1,000 stitches in 3 to 4 minutes, not counting thread changes. The manual does not name any import file format. .JEF is shown only as a best guess, because Janome-family embroidery machines commonly use it; Elna does not confirm it for this model. No US price was found on Elna's page, so no price range is shown.
