Janome Memory Craft 300E: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: MC300E, MC 300E, 300E, 300 E, Janome 300E, Janome MC300E

Janome's older embroidery-only machine: a 5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm) field, two hoops in the box, 3 fonts and a backlit touchscreen, at 400 to 650 stitches per minute. Designs load from an ATA PC card, not USB. It is no longer sold new, so most buyers will be looking at used units.

The Janome Memory Craft 300E is a discontinued embroidery-only machine with a 8 × 5.5 in (200 × 140 mm) embroidery field. It reads .JEF, .SEW files and gets designs by Memory card and 3 lettering fonts.

Memory Craft 300E hoop size and embroidery area

The Memory Craft 300E can stitch a design up to 8 × 5.5 in (200 × 140 mm) in one hooping, which is the 5.5 × 8 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: Large hoop (8 × 5.5 in (200 × 140 mm)), Standard hoop (5 × 4.3 in (126 × 110 mm)).

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, quilt block, patch.

Who the Memory Craft 300E is for

Fits someone shopping used for a medium-size Janome embroidery-only machine for home décor, garments and monograms, who already has a card reader or Janome software. Skip it if you want USB or Wi-Fi transfer, a large field, or a machine that also sews.

Strengths

  • 5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm) field, about 2.8 times the area of a 4 × 4 in field
  • Two hoops come with it: the large 5.5 × 7.9 in hoop and a standard 5 × 4.3 in (126 × 110 mm) hoop
  • Embroiders at 400 to 650 stitches per minute
  • Backlit touchscreen with on-screen editing: resize at 90, 100, 110 and 120 percent, rotate in 45 degree steps, flip and zoom
  • Automatic needle threader, plus 2 and 3 letter monogramming

Limits

  • Designs load from an ATA PC card (a Compact Flash card in a Type II adapter); a dealer spec lists no USB port
  • Only 3 built-in fonts
  • Embroidery only: it cannot sew, and it is a single-needle machine, so each color change needs a stop and a re-thread
  • No longer sold new, and no cap frame or hat hoop appears in the dealer spec

Good to know: Janome's own pages block automated access, so the figures here follow dealer listings that repeat Janome's specs; check them against Janome's manual before you buy a used unit. One dealer page shows the design count as 100 in its feature list and as 90 (10 large-hoop, 60 standard-hoop and 20 combination designs) in its description, so the count is left blank. The Janome 300 brochure says .jef and .sew designs are loaded from the ATA card, so both are listed. The dealer writes the field as 5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm); the large hoop is wider than it is tall as it sits on the machine. The dealer's accessory list calls the two hoops standard hoops A and B, and its spec list names them large and standard; the sizes agree. Dealer pages also list a free-arm C hoop as an accessory for this model; its stitch area was not confirmed, and it is not counted as a cap frame. No weight, screen size or release year was found. The dealer does not say whether the screen is color. Which Janome model replaced it was not confirmed, so no link is set.

How the Memory Craft 300E compares

Frequently asked questions

What is the embroidery area of the Janome Memory Craft 300E?

5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm), the size of the large hoop. The standard hoop gives 5 × 4.3 in (126 × 110 mm).

What hoops come with the Janome 300E?

Two: a large hoop (5.5 × 7.9 in) and a standard hoop (5 × 4.3 in). Dealer pages also list a free-arm C hoop as an accessory for this model; its stitch area was not confirmed.

How do designs get onto the Janome 300E?

Through an ATA PC card (a Compact Flash card in a Type II adapter), or a PC link that uses that card slot. A dealer spec lists no USB port, so plan on a card reader.

Is the Janome Memory Craft 300E still sold?

It is treated here as discontinued. One dealer page still shows it with a price but no stock status, so ask the dealer whether a unit is in stock and in what condition.

What is the difference between the Janome 300E and the 350E?

Dealer pages list the same 5.5 × 7.9 in (140 × 200 mm) field, the same two hoops, 3 fonts and a top speed of 650 stitches per minute for both. The 350E page also lists a USB host port next to the card slot; the 300E page lists only the card slot.
