Brother SE2000: hoop size, file formats and specs

Also written: SE-2000, SE 2000

Brother's current 5 × 7 in sewing and embroidery combo. It has a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) field, 650 stitches per minute, 193 built-in designs, 241 sewing stitches and Wi-Fi. Only the 5 × 7 in hoop is in the box.

The Brother SE2000 is a sewing and embroidery machine with a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST, .PEN files and gets designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and has 193 built-in designs and 13 lettering fonts.

SE2000 hoop size and embroidery area

The SE2000 can stitch a design up to 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) in one hooping, which is the 5 × 7 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 5" × 7" hoop (large) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)).

Optional from Brother: 4" × 7" magnetic hoop (4 × 7 in (100 × 180 mm)), 4" × 4" hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small frame (about 1" × 2.5") (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)).

What file format does the SE2000 use?

The SE2000 reads .PES, .PHC, .DST and .PEN files. You load designs by USB stick or Wi-Fi, and the Artspira app works with it. Designs in other formats (for example .JEF or .EXP) need converting first with embroidery software.

Who the SE2000 is for

A good fit for someone who has outgrown a 4 × 4 in machine and wants one machine for sewing and larger single-hoop designs such as bigger logos and lettering. Skip it if you need to embroider hats or run production.

Strengths

  • 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) embroidery field, with the 5 × 7 in hoop included
  • Embroiders at up to 650 stitches per minute
  • 193 built-in embroidery designs, 13 embroidery fonts and 241 sewing stitches
  • Wi-Fi, USB and the Artspira app; reads .pes, .phc, .dst and .pen files
  • A knee lifter comes in the box

Limits

  • Only the 5 × 7 in hoop comes in the box; the 4 × 4 in hoop, small frame and 4 × 7 in magnetic hoop are extra
  • Single needle, so you change the thread by hand for every color
  • The largest design is 5 × 7 in, with no larger hoop listed by Brother
  • Brother lists no cap frame for it, so it is not set up for finished hats

Good to know: Brother's manual gives the largest design as 180 × 130 mm (7-3/32 × 5-1/8 in), listed here as 130 × 180 mm to match the way the hoop is attached. Brother's manual also covers the NS2850D, which has a different product code. The Brother US page lists 13 embroidery fonts and, separately, 5 sewing lettering fonts. That the SE2000 succeeds the SE1900 comes from a retailer listing, not from Brother.

The largest design is 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm), and the 5 × 7 in hoop comes in the box. Brother's manual also lists optional 4 × 4 in and small frames and a 4 × 7 in magnetic hoop.

Does the Brother SE2000 work with a magnetic hoop?

Yes. Brother lists its 4 × 7 in (100 × 180 mm) magnetic hoop as compatible with the SE2000. It is sold separately.

What is the difference between the Brother SE2000 and SE700?

The SE2000 has a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) field against 4 × 4 in on the SE700, embroiders at 650 stitches per minute against 400, and has 193 built-in designs and 241 stitches against 135 and 103. Both have Wi-Fi.

Is the Brother SE2000 the replacement for the SE1900?

Yes. It has wireless LAN for sending designs from a PC with Design Database Transfer, and it works with the Artspira app. It also reads .pes, .phc, .dst and .pen files from a USB flash drive.
