Also written: Innov-is NS1150E, Innovis NS1150E, NS-1150E, NS 1150E, Innov-is 1150E

Brother's discontinued Innov-is embroidery-only machine with a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) field, 138 built-in designs and a color touch screen. Designs come in by USB stick only, with no Wi-Fi or app. Brother links the same manual for it as for the PE800.

The Brother NS1150E is a discontinued embroidery-only machine with a 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) embroidery field. It reads .PES, .PHC, .DST files and gets designs by USB stick, and has 138 built-in designs and 11 lettering fonts.

NS1150E hoop size and embroidery area

The NS1150E can stitch a design up to 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) in one hooping, which is the 5 × 7 in size. That is the field limit: a larger hoop from another maker will not let it stitch a bigger area.

In the box: 5" × 7" hoop (large) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)).

Optional from Brother: Multi-position hoop (12" × 5" frame, stitches 5" × 7" per position) (5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm)), 4" × 4" hoop (medium) (4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm)), Small frame (about 1" × 2.5") (2.4 × 0.8 in (60 × 20 mm)).

Fits in one hooping at typical size: left chest, pocket, sleeve, beanie, towel, baby onesie, baby bib, quilt block, patch.

Who the NS1150E is for

A fit for a home embroiderer who wants a 5 × 7 in field and is happy to move designs by USB stick, buying from leftover stock or used. Skip it if you want wireless transfer, an app, or a machine Brother still sells new.

Strengths

  • 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) stitch area, with a 5 × 7 in hoop in the box
  • 138 built-in designs, 10 frame shapes and 11 lettering fonts
  • Color touch screen where you can edit, rotate and resize designs before stitching
  • Reads .pes, .phc and .dst files from a USB flash drive
  • Automatic thread cutter, plus upper thread and bobbin sensors

Limits

  • USB stick only: no Wi-Fi and no companion app
  • Brother lists no cap frame for it, so it is not set up for finished hats
  • Single needle, so you change the thread by hand for every color
  • Brother US lists it as discontinued and shows no price, so new stock is limited

Good to know: Brother US sells this machine as the Innov-is NS1150E, and its support page links the same operation manual that Brother links for the PE800 (product codes 888-L90, L91, L93, K90 and K92). The headline specs match the PE800: 5 × 7 in field, 138 designs, 11 fonts, about 17.6 lb. Brother US's spec table shows 100 × 100 mm and 5 × 7 in under included hoops, but the manual's accessory list and a US dealer's listing show only the 5 × 7 in hoop in the box, so the 4 × 4 in hoop is marked optional here. Check what is in the box before you buy. The multi-position hoop is a 12 × 5 in frame you move between three positions to stitch combined designs; each section is still limited to 7 × 5 in, so it does not enlarge the field. Brother US lists the screen as 3.2 × 1.8 in with no diagonal, so screen size is left empty. Brother US also shows computer connectivity as yes, but the manual only covers USB flash drives in the machine's USB port. Brother US gives no top speed in its spec table; 650 stitches per minute comes from Brother's product text and dealer listings. Brother US gives no launch year, so releaseYear is left empty.

Frequently asked questions

What is the embroidery size of the Brother NS1150E?

5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm). A 5 × 7 in hoop comes in the box. Brother's manual also lists optional 4 × 4 in, small and multi-position hoops, but none of them make the field larger.

What file formats does the Brother NS1150E read?

Its manual lists .pes, .phc and .dst files. Load them from a USB flash drive. DST files show as file names only, without a picture, in the pattern list.

Is the Brother NS1150E the same as the Innov-is NS1150E?

Yes. Brother US sells it as the Innov-is NS1150E and now labels it discontinued. Brother names no successor, so look for leftover dealer stock or used machines.

Can the Brother NS1150E embroider hats?

Brother lists no cap frame for it. Its spec table shows cap frame capability as not applicable, and the hoops in its manual are flat frames, so it is not set up for finished caps.

Does the Brother NS1150E have Wi-Fi or an app?

No. Brother US lists a USB port only, and the manual covers USB flash drives. Designs reach the machine on a USB stick.
