Will my embroidery design fit?
Enter the design size. We check it against your machine's real embroidery field, try turning it 90°, and tell you how many hoopings a split design needs.
Design size checker
—
A design fits when its width and height fit inside the machine's embroidery field, either way round. Common fields are 4 × 4 in (100 × 100 mm), 5 × 7 in (130 × 180 mm) and 6 × 10 in (160 × 260 mm).
How the checker works
- We compare your design with each machine's maximum embroidery field from the maker's manual, as drawn and turned 90°.
- Designs within 3 mm of an edge are marked tight: they fit, but some machines warn about the edge.
- Designs that are too big are split into parts that overlap by 10 mm so they can be lined up. We count the hoopings in the better orientation.
- For your own machine we also show the smallest hoop it has that holds the design.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a design fits my embroidery hoop?
Compare the design's width and height (shown in your design file or software) with your machine's maximum embroidery field, not the outside of the hoop. If it fits either way round, the machine can stitch it in one hooping.
What if my design is a little too big?
Turn it 90° if your machine allows, shrink it by up to about 10–20% in software (more can spoil the stitch density), or split it into parts and stitch it in several hoopings.
Why does my machine say the design is too big when it should fit?
Some machines and apps keep a small margin from the field edge, and designs saved at a slightly bigger size than shown can fail. Leave a few millimetres to spare.
Can I stitch a 5 × 7 design on a 4 × 4 machine?
Not in one hooping. You need to split the design into parts, which usually takes four hoopings and careful alignment, or use a 5 × 7 machine.
